Henge Bed 6
Double
Various pines
Sold
This, I suppose, is the budget end of the range, and the price reflects the fact that the bed is made from a variety of timbers with different finishes. The sides and bottom are pitch pine, the legs were originally on Henge Bed 5 and the cross-piece for the headboard was washed up on Formby beach. Following the principle of Henge Bed 2, there are four uprights on the headboard simply because I had enough wood for four!
I suppose this bed embodies the principles of Ethical Beds better than all the others because it comes from a determination not to waste good timber, but it'll certainly be the cheapest double bed I'll ever make!
The cross-piece is held on by four mortise and tenon joints to the uprights, which are then bolted to the bed frame at twelve points. Call it over-engineering if you wish, but I want each bed - even the budget one - to have a rock-solid feel to it.
